Docker is a very important tool for developers, devops and system administrator, docker can make those people life easier. In this tutorial i will show you how to install docker ce (community edition) on lubuntu 16.04 xenial.
If you install docker.io on lubuntu, that means you are using the older version of docker. There are two kinds of docker now days, docker ee (enterprise edition) and docker ce (community edition).
How to install Docker CE on Lubuntu 16.04
- make sure the old docker (docker.io) is uninstalled (if previously installed)
- run update command

sudo apt-get update
- install programs needed to add docker ce repo
-
sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates curl software-properties-common
- add docker gpg key
-
curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add -
- add repo for docker ce lubuntu/ubuntu 16.04
-
sudo add-apt-repository "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu xenial stable"
- run update command again
-
sudo apt-get update
- install docker ce
-
sudo apt-get install docker-ce
